Delegating can be anything from asking someone to hand you the salt at the dinner table (you delegate the efforts of fetching the salt to someone else) to requesting someone manages a multi million deal in an organization (asking them to handle all the aspects of the negotiations, relations with the other party, paper work, etc.), and anywhere in between.
Delegating isn’t just helpful for the individual who delegates, as they receive assistance with something they themselves need to get done, but it is also a powerful tool to engage and empower employees in their work.
Used properly, delegating tasks can hone and enhance employees’ skills, set them up for future succession planning, create stronger team players, and even strengthening the operational overall qualifications as more and more individuals are capable of handling a larger part of the operation.
It is important that all individuals in a managerial position learn how to properly delegate, so that most – if not all – delegated tasks can be fully utilized in strengthening the workforce one individual at a time.
